Esther's Garden
Esther was a clever farm girl. Although she had rose bushes in every shade available, zinnias that grew as large as a child's face, and marigolds as big as sunflowers, she still planted fake plastic flours in her garden.
She liked to fool her friend Eva. Eva's obsessive compulsive disorder was out of control in Esther's flower garden. Eva smelled every flower in Esther's garden.
Esther stood with her hoe propped under her arm pit and listened to Eva run her mouth for hours in the mid-day sun while she sniffed all the flowers in bloom in the Appalachian garden. “Does she ever shut up?” Esther thought to herself as Eva rattled on about her son, James and how damn smart he supposedly was.
Eva talked on and on as bumble bees fluttered their way around in the warm July sunshine. Eva looked just like a bumble bee sometimes in Esther's view. The constant hummmmm from her lips was very similar to that of a bumble bee.
Eva bent down and placed her nose on the plastic pink rose from the Five and Dime Store and flat out lied to Esther-- “Oh, this one smells real good Esther!” “Eva, you dumb- ass, that's a plastic flower, look at it closely” exclaimed Esther while rolling her eyes. “Oh Esther, you are so clever. But that only goes to show how beautiful your flower garden is, I lose my senses around you.” replied Eva.
“Eva, you talk too much. Did anyone ever tell you that besides me?” “No, because you are my only real friend Esther. I'm going home now. I know I can be too much sometimes.” said Eva sadly. “And you are the only friend who comes to see my flowers! Talk all you want, I don't care. You make my garden grow.” insisted Esther as she plucked a dandy lion and threw it like a weed from her garden.
